John and Julie are deaf, as is their 1^st daughter.  But they won’t know if their 2^nd child is deaf also until months after she’s born.  And if so, they really won’t mind and would almost prefer it.  John was born deaf in a hearing family and suffered a lot of exclusion and solitude.  Julie was born in a deaf family and her childhood experience was different.
