Joanie and David decided that Joanie would stay home to raise their kids instead of going to work and relying on daycare. Their choice is unusual in today’s society, and they continue to face criticism. Even Joanie’s own mother, a businesswoman, was shocked by their choice.  They have to cope with certain financial limitations, but the payoff in benefit for their children is invaluable in their eyes.
