The photo below depicts an actual car crash that happened in Egypt many years ago. The event dramatically changed the lives of several people – a boy lost his mother, a woman was thrown into a coma which permanently altered her personality and cognitive function, and three families would no longer be the same. Although my place could easily have remained on the edge of this drama as mere spectator, the orphaned boy changed all that by pulling me to the heart of his trauma. I will never forget him, or those few days by the Red Sea. I still wonder what became of him, and that wondering gave birth to this fictional story …
